Inda’s Corner: Black Girls Do It Better Vol. 2

Bob Dylan is one of those white men I’ve had a complicated relationship with for some time now. Like most music fans, I’ve heard his name pretty much all my life. I probably first saw him in the “We Are the World” video, but I had no idea who he was at the time and wouldn’t even realize it until many years later. And unknown to me, I’ve also heard his music most of my life as well. On so many occasions, I’d hear a song only to find out later that Bob Dylan wrote and performed it first.

I’d actually intended this one to be the first in my explorations of cover songs, but I ended up having to pay tribute to Aretha last year to make my case that her genius lied in her ability to make any song her own even if she didn’t write it. And so now I’d like to look at the Black women who covered Bob Dylan and show that Black girls do indeed do it better. No offense to Bob and his own gift with the pen.

CSP Presents The Black Swan Collective: Episode #110

This week we have tracks from PHOX, Lorine Chia, and Bbymutha. Our throwback segment pays homage to a piece of the industry we’re missing in today’s climate. Also apologies for any issues in the sound quality. We’re working with a new-to-me microphone.
