Inda’s Corner: Party Like It’s 1999

When I get to the end of the essay, I’ll explain why I ultimately chose this year rather than ‘84, ‘89, or ’94, but mostly it comes down to memory. I still remember some of my own life in 1999, and it’s more than just a series of blurry vignettes. I mean, they are, but they’re a bit clear and I still have some feeling connected to these vignettes. I’m sure I could go back and look at 1979 because of my love of history, but that wouldn’t be as fun. And if I’m being honest about years like 2004 and 2009, I was so out of loop in current music, and, well, I’m not sure I’m ready for that journey or reflecting on that part of my life.
